Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor technology

Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) processes improve reliability, simplify operation, and require less space than traditional wastewater treatment systems.

MBBR technology employs thousands of polyethylene biofilm carriers operating in mixed motion within an aerated wastewater treatment basin. Each individual biocarrier increases productivity through providing protected surface area to support the growth of heterotrophic and autotrophic bacteria within its cells. It is this high-density population of bacteria that achieves high-rate biodegradation within the system, while also offering process reliability and ease of operation.

This technology provides cost-effective treatment with minimal maintenance since MBBR processes self-maintain an optimum level of productive biofilm. Additionally, the biofilm attached to the mobile biocarriers within the system automatically responds to load fluctuations.

MicroClear™ Membrane

These units are submerged directly into the wastewater and filtrate (filtered water) is drawn through and out of the membrane by a slight negative pressure. Solids, bacteria, parasites and viruses remain in the bioreactor to be digested by bacteria or settle as sludge. Microclear™ MBR eliminate the need for the final stages of conventional wastewater treatment plants, including clarification and filtration.

Chemical-Free Self-Cleaning

MicroClear™ MBR systems feature continuous air scouring of the membranes during operation. Fine air bubbles gently remove the filter cake – extending filter life and minimizing maintenance.

Backpulsing Feature
To enhance cleaning, the system features a backpulsing mode.
1.Water direction is reversed.
2.The openings where filtrate exits into the collector become backpulse water inlets.
3.This causes the membranes to bulge slightly, increasing the effectiveness of the air bubble scouring.

Exceptional Effluent Quality

The patented MicroClear™™ membranes are an effective barrier against particulate, bacteria, viruses, E. coli and chlorine-resistant, pathogenic microorganisms, including Cryptosporidium and Giardia lamblia. Effluent from Microclear™ MBR systems is superior to conventional treatment processes, and meets or exceeds regulatory requirements. It provides the flexibility of direct discharge, even in environmentally sensitive areas, as well as water recycling and reuse for secondary purposes.

Minimal Footprint

The space efficiency of Microclear™ MBR Microclear MBR systems offers tremendous installation flexibility and helps reduce installation costs. Our systems are capable of treating high volumes of wastewater in a minimal footprint. Compared to conventional activated slude systems,MBR treatment solutions require only one quarter of the area. This makes our systems ideal for remote use, and anywhere space is at a premium, such as retrofitting conventional treatment plants that are outdated or at maximum capacity.

Modular Flexibility & Scalability

A key benefit of Microclear™ MBR systems is their scalability to accommodate treatment requirements of virtually any size – up to 1 million gallons per day (MGD). The modular filter cassettes can be arranged in numerous combinations inside the housings – stacked or side-by-side – to reduce space requirements. In decentralized applications, cassettes can be configured five-high to minimize footprint and air requirements. They can also be formatted in framed modules that utilize a hoist mechanism to lower them into the tank and raise them for periodic cleaning (annually or semi-annually).
